How to assess the eco-impact of your product
Eco-based decisions for better products
How can you integrate the ecological impact of your product into design and innovation choices? Reducing the total eco-impact is becoming an increasingly important part of value creation in the manufacturing industry. It leads to better material choices, more sustainable products, improved customer relationships, and market opportunities tied to optimal value retention.
In this interactive workshop, you will explore how to assess the eco-impact of your product using a simplified life cycle analysis (LCA). You'll gain insight into relevant methods, discover the Ecocost approach developed by TU Delft, and apply this practically to your own context. This will strengthen your innovation process with ecological insights and create added value at both product and organisational level.
For whom?
Whether you are designing, innovating, or commercialising products – the eco-impact of your solution is becoming crucial. This in-depth workshop is aimed at professionals in the manufacturing industry involved in:
- Product design
- R&D and innovation
- Product management and business development
- Sustainability and environment (SHE)
- And C-level decision-makers driving product and service innovation
Key takeaways
After this workshop, you will be able to:
- Assess the environmental impact of your product throughout its life cycle using a simplified approach (life cycle analysis – LCA)
- Identify the main leverage points to reduce this impact
- Compare different alternatives based on data, not gut feeling
- Recognise which data is missing or which assumptions need validation
- Strike the right balance between accuracy and the time/resources required
- Make informed choices on system boundaries, life cycle phases, functional units, methods and tools
- Apply the open-source Ecocost method from TU Delft within your product context
