Wind Energy Technology Summit
We welcome you to the 5th edition of the Wind Energy Technology Summit. Sirris, OWI-Lab and Agoria Energy TECH BELGIUM. Join us in Gent for an inspiring day that will navigate through the scenarios linked to the end-of-life of offshore wind energy assets.
Are we able to extend the lifespan of the assets? Which factors do we need to take into account and which uncertainties do we need to understand? Which innovative decommissioning strategies are in development? And which re-use cases could be developed for the infrastructure that has not consumed all of its lifetime?
These questions are central during the Wind Energy Technology Summit 2025. As Europe’s offshore wind sector matures, many first-generation turbines are approaching end-of-life (EOL). Specifically, in our North Sea region (Belgium, UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany) we will have the first cases of either lifetime extension or preparation for decommissioning.
How do we manage the complex choices and decisions around a potential lifetime extension, decommissioning procedures, re-use possibilities, and/or recycling at the end of life in a way that is economically sound, technically feasible, legally compliant and environmentally responsible? Various Belgian and international speakers will take the floor to share the latest insights from past and ongoing R&D projects that try to answer these questions and guide industry and government towards the optimal pathways.
Key takeaways & key themes
- EOL strategies for (offshore) wind turbine assets
- Understanding material degradation effects as part of lifetime extension
- The importance of certification during end-of-life strategies
- Multi-use and re-use cases as innovative repowering cases
- Case studies in lifetime extension, re-use, refurbishment, decommissioning and recycling
- Launching ceremony of the ETF-project OWI Create project , creating a unified Offshore Energy Center of Excellence
For whom?
Whether you are a decision-maker, technology provider, or researcher, this event will equip you with actionable insights and strategic frameworks to future-proof your EoL strategies. We’ll cover all R-strategies for wind assets.
Launch reception OWI-Create
You're also warmly invited to the launch ceremony of the Energy Transition Fund project OWI CREATE—the Belgian Offshore Wind Innovation Center for Research, Expertise and Advanced Technology Excellence.
Join us as we celebrate the start of this ambitious initiative, which will consolidate R&D efforts, shape Belgium’s offshore energy roadmap, and foster international leadership through collaboration and innovation.
Meet key partners from Sirris, VUB, and UGent, and connect with industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers driving the future of offshore energy.
- Want to attend only the OWI CREATE launch reception? Participation is free, but separate registration is required via this page
- Registering for the full Wind Energy Technology Summit? Then you're automatically signed up for the OWI CREATE launch as well — no need to register twice.
